A spark that set everything in motion
I'm Sverre , 17 years old – and probably one of the few teenagers who prefer to spend their free time designing packaging and making wooden sticks rather than doing TikTok challenges. 😅
The idea for Flundertje came to me here in Hamburg, where wind, waves, and creativity somehow belong together. I wanted to create something small but special – something that shows that design has a place in everyday life.
Matches? Seriously?
Yes! That's exactly what I thought at first.
But the more I thought about it, the more exciting it became: Why should matches always look boring? Why not design something that looks beautiful just sitting there ? That's how the first idea was born: Design meets flame.
Today, Flundertje matches stand not only for lighting candles, but for creativity, courage and attention to detail .
From head to can
What started on a scrap of paper quickly became a real project:
I experimented with colors, shapes, and labels.
I wanted each product to combine Nordic understatement with a little wow factor – like the pink matchstick tips in the photo: eye-catching, yet stylish.
I searched for manufacturers, tested packaging, worked with a designer on the logo, and built the website. And suddenly it was there: my own product.
Flounder today
There are now various designs , many enthusiastic customers, and even shops that sell my matches. Each tin represents an idea: that design can be everywhere – even in things we otherwise hardly notice.
I'm proud of what has become of a simple idea – and of everyone who has a little flounder at home. 💙
my goal
I want to show that even as a young person, you can build something that truly lasts. And maybe this is just the beginning – who knows what products will come next? 😉
